Peace of Land – An Art Project Highlighting the War in Ukraine

  • Oceans 26 Gonnetstraat Haarlem, NH, 2011 KA Netherlands (map)

Peace of Land is an art project of Merijn Everaats that commeorates 4th anniversary of full scale invasion of Ukraine.

From 17 February to 4 March, a series of photographs will be shown on large LED screens on the Oceans building in Haarlem, displayed at eye level along the railway, the images bring the reality of the war into everyday public space.

The photographs were taken by war photographer Daphne Wesdorp and depict the Ukrainian landscape under wartime conditions. The title Peace of Land is a play on the words “piece of land” and reflects on the struggle over territory in Ukraine. The regions most heavily affected by the war, particularly around Donbas, are known for fertile soil and valuable natural resources. At the same time, Ukraine was developing as a democratic country and moving toward closer integration with the European Union. These factors form an important part of the context in which the conflict takes place.

Peace of Land is a private initiative by Merijn Everaarts. This project came to life in collaboration with local creatives Sander van Weert (We Tell Stories) and Jelle Steijnen (REACT). The art project is fully funded through private means. Peace of Land invites everyone to see the reality, speak up, and support Ukraine in any possible way.

This war is not only a humanitarian tragedy — it is also a matter of Europe’s future. Silence and indifference allow violence to continue. Awareness and solidarity remain essential.
